The discovery of the remains of the 1722 Waggonway last June has been voted in Scotland's top 5 archaeological finds of 2019 by Dig It.
We're delighted to have been recognised in this way, and can confirm that plans are underway for extending the scope of the excavation in 2020. We are working with East Lothian Council Archaeology Service on this, with dates to be confirmed.
The potential of this dig to further the knowledge of this and other early railways is unparalleled, and we are confident of a good level of preservation given the results in the test trench.
