As part of the 3 Harbours Arts Festival, join Ed Bethune & Arran Johnston for the first of two guided walks of Scotland's first railway, the 1722 Waggonway. Learn about the Tranent coal carried by the waggonway to supply the salt pans at Cockenzie & Port Seton, to the events of the 21st September 1745 when Jacobites clashed with Government forces in the fields to the east of Prestonpans.
This will also be an opportunity to learn about and view the latest archaelogical discoveries at Cockenzie Harbour and the 1722 Waggonway Heritage Group's plans for September's "Big Waggonway Dig"! Meet at the Battle Viewpoint at Meadowmill at 9.45 for a 10am start. We finish at Cockenzie Harbour at 12 noon. Admission is FREE, but we welcome donations to the 1722 Waggonway Heritage Group.
